More About This Wine

Catarina rouge shows vibrant raspberry and cherry fruit on the nose, underscored by hints of garrigue and crushed stone. Medium to full-bodied, it’s ripe and silky in feel but not overly rich or round, and easier to pair with food. Like its white sister, this red cuvée is also named after Catherine of Siena, Saint and Doctor of the Church, who went to Avignon in 1376 as ambassador of the city of Florence. She persuaded Pope Gregory XI to return to Rome to relocate the Papacy back where it belonged.

Hows it's made

The vines are 60 years old on average. This powerful cuvée is 90-100% Grenache, depending on the vintage. The rest of the blend can be made of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. The average yield is 30hl/Ha. The grapes of each plot are vinified separately. Depending on the vintage, part of the harvest is not de-stemmed. The juices are vinified using natural yeasts for four to five weeks in cement tanks. The ageing is carried out in old French oak demi-muids during 12 months.
