About Ronco
Severo

Stefano and Laura Novello’s 8ha vineyard in the Colli Orientali (Eastern Hills) sits in the town of Prepotto, in the far northern region of Friuli Venezia-Giulia. A short hike to the north east is Slovenia. To the south west is the Adriatic and the Gulf of Trieste. In their tiny domain they produce natural wines with respect to the winemaking traditions of this region and fastidious attention to detail, both in the vineyards and in the cellar.

The Colli Orientali were formed around 35-55 million years ago, when land that was at the bottom of the sea was pushed up toward the Julian Alps. The soil is called “ponca” or “flysch”, a friable sandstone rock that emerges from the soil of these hills and flakes into fine pieces due to the action of sun, rain, wind and frost, releasing the mineral components that are the backbone of Ronco Severo’s wine.
